Seaman Corporation - Shelter-Rite Architectural Fabrics

Quality – A Half-Century Seaman Tradition

Over 50 years of Seaman performance technology goes into every yard of Shelter-Rite fabric. In fact, Seaman's own laboratories are responsible for nearly all of the major technological improvements in PVC-coated polyester architectural fabrics over the past five decades.

Vertically Integrated to Control Quality

In effect, we control our reputation – and your success – because we control the entire Shelter-Rite manufacturing process, from weaving and coating to finished product. We can provide assurance that structures fabricated with Shelter-Rite fabrics will withstand the toughest tests, maintaining their integrity and good looks in spite of the blazing desert sun, wintry blasts and all the thermal shocks in between. Plus, we have the industry's finest customer service team in place to make sure you get the exact fabric you want, when and where you need it.

While many companies around the world produce PVC-coated polyester architectural fabrics, Shelter-Rite material is unique in design and performance.

It starts with the weft-inserted warp-knit base fabrics that we produce in our own textile mill. In this fabric design there is no crimp that is forced onto the yarns, allowing structural loads to be applied directly to the fiber. As a result, Shelter-Rite fabric has uniform and consistent elongation characteristics.

Superior Polymer Technology

The PVC compound that is applied to the base fabric is formulated by our scientists to provide years and years of outstanding service in extreme environmental conditions. Highly trained manufacturing personnel perform all of the coating operations. In addition, extensive quality control checks are performed at each coating step and on every 100 yards of the finished material.

A wide variety of colors and top finishes are available for your fabric structure. Top finish choices include acrylics, acrylics/polyurethanes, and the ultimate, Tedlar® PVF films. Tedlar is in the same DuPont polymer family as Teflon® and provides the world's best surface for durability, inertness, and self-cleaning attributes. Consult the Tedlar section of this site for more information on Tedlar, or visit www.dupont.com.
